Michaela is a Filipina-American performer and model currently based in Queens, NY.
She is driven by the need to explore and deconstruct identity, working to reconcile the personal identities she carries with societal, familial, and personal expectations placed on her. Michaela is a firm believer that meaningful art grows from meaningful relationships; that a united humanity breeds superhuman work. She loves improvising, partnering, pushing the limits of her physicality, rolling around on the floor, and laughing a lot.
Currently, Michaela is a cast member at Luna Luna, working with Poncili Creations to create a whimsical fairground experience in the world’s first art amusement park. She was a previously a cast member at Sleep No More, the acclaimed Off-Broadway show by Punchdrunk/Emursive Productions. She also dances with the Stephen Petronio Company and SAXYN Dance Works in addition to freelancing around New England. Recent collaborators include GREYZONE and c/s movement projects.
Additionally, Michaela serves on the Advisory Board of the Doris Humphrey Foundation for Dance.
Michaela is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance and a minor in Writing.
On a more personal note…
I often go by Micky! I’m a Taurus! I love eating! And laying down! I cut all my hair off for a job! I am nothing if not a yapper! I will gladly go on a walk with you. I am currently reading Meet Me in Atlantic City by Jane Wong. Please cut me off after two coffees (three if it’s a bad day). I have a twin brother (no, we are not identical). I can fall asleep at any time, anywhere. I always have snacks and yes, I will share. I love watching women’s sports, (GO LIBS!). I’m quick to laughter and a very aggressive sneezer. I am so proud to be Filipina-American. I can’t wait to own a giant dog one day. I love what I do, and I’m eternally grateful to be able to say that.
